Diary, 1864.

Transcribed diary kept by William Tritt of Poygan Township, Winnebago County, Wis. during the Civil War. Tritt, a farmer, enlisted at Oshkosh, Wis. on Aug. 14, 1862 and joined the 21st Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, Co. F. He participated in battles in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia where he was taken prisoner near Chickamauga in 1863. The diary covers his internment during 1864 in several prison camps including Danville, Va., Andersonville, Ga., and Florence, S.C. Although the entries are brief, they constitute a vivid description of conditions and contain much detail. Also included is a photocopy of a photograph of Tritt and a brief biography.
